How to update your bathroom without breaking the bank

Homes are always a work in process, but if a few tricks of the trade can help you fall back in love with yours – specifically the bathroom – why not give it a shot?

Have you looked at your bathroom lately? I mean REALLY looked at it? Did you notice some wear and tear on your fixtures? Is the shower or bath looking a little rough or does it just look a little outdated?

Might be time to give your bathroom a facelift.

If you’re thinking, “I don’t have money for a remodel,” you’re not alone. The good news is Offerpad’s renovations team is here to help! ⚒️  🧰 Read on for a few ways to update your bathroom without breaking the bank. 💰

Reglaze/refinish the tub or shower

If your tub or shower needs a little TLC but you don’t like the idea of ripping out the tile and making a dusty mess, here’s our advice: Don’t replace it … reglaze it. If your shower surround and tub are in great shape but haven’t been updated in several years, reglazing is a more affordable option than ripping it out altogether.

Like to roll up your sleeves and get the job done yourself? There are some great tub, sink and tile refinishing kits at your local hardware store. Just make sure you clean the surface areas really well before you start and follow the application instructions carefully. You’ll be amazed as to how fresh and updated your bathroom can look and feel.

If you’re looking for a professional to do the resurfacing work for you, Google knows a guy (or gal). Just search “bathtub reglazing/resurfacing” specialist. Keep in mind having a pro do it may be a slightly more involved process, but the finished product will be well worth it.

Update your mirrors

You probably take a good look in the mirror every morning, but have you looked at the actual condition of it? Does it have cracks or spots you can’t seem to clean up? More importantly, is it still a ‘reflection’ (sorry I had to 😉) of your bathroom’s overall aesthetic? If it no longer fits the vibe, it’s probably time to go shopping.

Finding the right size mirror is key. First, measure the wall and the width of your vanity. You want a mirror large enough to use comfortably but not one that’s so big it looks awkward. Prices for mirrors vary, so make sure the mirror style you want to install is within your budget.

When it comes to installation, some mirrors are easier to install than others. Make sure any mounting hardware you plan to use is sturdy enough to support the weight of the mirror. If you’re installing a larger, heavier mirror, bring in a second person to help.

You’ll be surprised at how simply changing out a mirror will make such a BIG difference. Huge.

Change out the fixtures

Now it’s time to look at your fixtures. Here we’re talking everything from faucets, showerheads and hardware for the cabinets, to towel racks and TP holders. Upgrading your bathroom fixtures can not only increase the value of your home, but it can also dramatically change your bathroom’s whole look and feel.

Some fixtures and accessories are easy to install on your own. If your bathroom upgrade requires reconfiguring or updating plumbing configurations, we recommend hiring a plumber.

If you’re looking to improve your water usage, opt for a low-flow showerhead or high-efficiency faucet. For something more modern, there are a lot of options to choose from depending on your style. You can even buy a bathroom hardware set so all your fixtures match.

Upgrading your bathroom fixtures is a great investment. Whether you want to help the environment, save money, or save time on repairs, new fixtures can certainly help.
