Add value to your home with these 4 fun & easy DIY weekend projects

Plans for the weekend? We have a few ideas, especially if you’re thinking of selling your home.

If you’re looking for ways to increase your home’s resale value when preparing to put it on the market, renovating the kitchen or bathroom are always good places to start. On average, you can recoup about 72% of the cost of a minor kitchen remodel and between 56-64% on a bathroom.

But if you don’t have the time or budget for a complete update, you can start smaller. Here are four fun, easy and inexpensive DIY weekend projects that could add more value and appeal to your home. And they won’t take a lot of time, so you can still get in that movie you’ve been dying to see or catch up on your binge watching. 🍿

Fancy up the foyer

First impressions are everything, so wow prospective buyers and guests with a welcoming entry way. Give a little preview of your home’s style here. Light the way with a funky garage-find chandelier or more modern overhead light fixture. Create a collage of framed family or favorite photos on the wall or hang a stunning statement mirror to enlarge the feel of the space (great for that last look before leaving the house, too). If you have room, add a complementary table or bench to provide a little extra storage and display space.

Re-awaken weary window treatments

Refresh your rooms in a weekend with this simple fix for outdated window treatments. Ditch those dreary drapes and torn shades and head out to the nearest home store or home improvement center for cut-to-measure faux wood or simple mini-blinds for a clean, fresh look. (Remember, too, that anything attached to walls, like most window treatments, are considered “fixtures” and usually must remain with the home when you sell it.)

Make a splash with a new kitchen backsplash

What could be easier than sprucing up the kitchen with a peel-and-stick tile backsplash? You can even apply most varieties right over your existing tile. There are lots of other options and materials that make a great backsplash, too. Paint a piece of good old-fashioned (and cheap!) pegboard and hang your everyday-use utensils on it for a practical accent. Cut and paste attractive tin tiles over countertops for eye-catching depth and dimension.

Frame your bathroom mirror

Can’t afford a total bath reno? You can still give that plain plate glass mirror in the bathroom an instant update by adding a DIY frame. Create a custom look by encasing a mirror with classic crown molding or a sleek, modern frame finished with a high-gloss paint to complement your bathroom cabinetry. Google how-to’s for simple step-by-step directions and videos.

There are TONS of other great ideas for easy weekend projects you can do yourself to add value to your home, whether you’re selling it or not. Head to your nearest home improvement center, scan your favorite DIY blog or hit up Pinterest for plenty more inspo. You got this!
