“The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” applies all too well in the situation of one homeowner, Rexann Wagner, in Venice, Florida. After years of splitting seasons between Ohio and Florida, Rexann and her husband John finally decided to make the Sunshine State their permanent residence. While they loved their home in Venice, the couple quickly realized that the layout of the house was not conducive for John’s wheelchair. They loved their home and were about to break ground with an upgrade plan to make it easier to navigate when Hurricane Irma hit and turned their plans upside down. With the mass amount of rebuilding that needed to happen so neighbors could live in their homes, their contractor warned them it could be months before they had the materials for the renovation. In the end, the couple decided it would be better to find a home that suited their needs rather than wait for an extended period in their existing home.
Rexann and John had bought and sold homes before and, as she said, “Selling a home is very stressful. I am a perfectionist and I want my house to be perfect when it’s shown so I end up cleaning frantically and making my family crazy. And really, the entire process is stressful — negotiations, inspections — it’s like getting a root canal!”
This time around, Rexann didn’t want the additional stress. With a disabled husband and a LARGE dog, the thought of having to manage time away from the home so it could be shown did not sit well. However, she had recently caught an OfferPad commercial on TV and decided to do some research. Rexann jumped online and searched for houses for sale in Tampa FL, and found the OfferPad website. “I visited OfferPad online two or three times before doing anything. I thought, if this process is as good as it sounds, then it’s perfect for us.”
It took finding the right condo to buy to make Rexann finally pull the trigger and submit her home for sale on OfferPad. Within 24 hours she had a very competitive offer, and she made the choice to move forward with the sale. As she noted, “I accepted the offer and instantly the stress of selling my house was gone.”
Of course, because the stress was alleviated in one area, it turned up in another. The condo they loved was still in construction, and the couple had to push off their closing with OfferPad several times because their new home was not ready. Then every homebuyer’s nightmare happened – their purchase of the condo fell through two days before closing. “If it wasn’t for OfferPad, we would have been on the street. The representatives I worked with were all so wonderful; they reworked the close of the sale without an issue so we could stay in our home while we continued to search for another. They were so calming throughout the entire process.”
Rexann and her husband were able to find another suitable home; they have happily (and finally!) closed and moved into their new abode. Rexann credits OfferPad’s fairness, flexibility and trustworthiness to keeping her sane during her home search process. “I just toot OfferPad’s horn wherever I go. This model works for a lot of people; it’s the perfect solution and I truly believe it’s the new way of doing real estate.”
