RENO DONE RIGHT: Remaking a Georgia McMansion

Hey home seekers! Ever wonder what it takes to get the beautiful Offerpad homes we have for sale move-in ready for you? It’s all thanks to Offerpad RENOVATE and our talented Renovations Team. (Those house flippers you see on TV have nothing on our crews. 😉)

In this special blog series, take a look at some incredible before-and-after stories on how we’ve taken some of the homes we buy from stinker to stunner.

The home

This 3-story, 3-car garage traditional style brick home in Canton, Georgia was built in 2000. With 4,020 square feet of living space (including a 2,000-sf unfinished basement), it has four bedrooms, 3.5 baths with original hardwood floors and a deck off of the kitchen.

In the day 20 years ago when vaulted ceilings, whirlpool tubs and built-in wine racks were every home buyers dream, this McMansion was the MacDaddy.

Demo day

While in basically good structural condition, after two decades of changing times and trends, some cosmetic upgrades were definitely needed to bring this massive renovation project from the dark design days of the early 2000s into the light of today’s trendy neutral interiors.

Behind the dated wallpaper and faux sponge-painted walls the home was beginning to show its age. There was evidence of water damage throughout the house, cracks appeared in the ceilings and the exterior columns showed signs of settling. Additionally, electrical and plumbing repairs were required to bring things up to current codes.

The foundation also needed some fixes. Water damage there required sealing and dry locking the foundation walls.

Wallpaper was stripped away and old paint covered with new throughout after repairing the drywall. The home’s beautiful solid hardwood floors were sanded and stained to restore them to their former glory.

The bathroom in the primary suite underwent a complete renovation (along with the home’s other two bathrooms and half bath), starting with all new tile. The jetted tub, which was inoperable, bubbled back to life. The old gold-framed shower enclosure was replaced with new, frameless shower glass. To bring the rest of the space up to date, all new hardware and faucets were added, including new sinks and countertops. The existing cabinets below them simply needed repairing and a fresh coat of paint.

Exterior renovations included repairs to the home’s trim, siding, fascia and deck.
