Making ‘HR easier’
As Offerpad’s Chief of Human Resources Officer Heather Bailey describes her team, “We serve as dual advocates for our organization and take pride in leading a transparent, inclusive and high-performing culture.” There is an underlying commitment to make “HR easier” for team members to access and utilize. In more actionable terms, that translates to bringing more visibility to the department and its processes, providing additional employee-centric tools, and introducing value-based resolutions to everyday issues.
One of the long-term goals of People Ops is to elevate the company’s overall performance. To do so, team members work hard to develop strong accountability models, growth strategies, leadership practices and overall organizational structure/flow that aligns with who we are—and want to be—as a company. Cultivating identity and fostering an atmosphere of accountability helps ensure our output remains a force.
Onwards & upwards
Moving a successful startup forward in a competitive real estate industry requires a lot of heavy lifting from all hands; proudly referring to their team as “small but mighty”, Offerpad’s People Ops hones-in on a few key areas.
Of course, ‘moving forward’ is simply not enough in a hotly contested industry; the organization (and its people!) need to be agile to remain at the head of the pack. To help establish a rhythm to our business, Offerpad’s People Ops team members diligently work to develop the critical tools, training, and internal programs necessary to keep pace—and quickly pivot—to meet the changing needs and goals of our company.
In the words of Bernadette Paulino, Offerpad’s Director of Total Rewards & HRIS, “It’s very exciting to be a part of a successful startup and be able to build new platforms and programs from the ground up.” Having established a formidable name in real estate with Offerpad, the challenge lies in sustaining that momentum—People Ops helps the company keep pace.
Lisa Hickie, Offerpad’s Senior Director of People Operations, adds, “It is so refreshing to be part of an organization where every team member and every leader is focused on working together towards a common goal—providing the best experience when our customers or employees buy or sell a home.”
Attracting top talent
Offerpad is home to some of the most creative minds in real estate and technology. Culture is king when it comes to our ability to attract and retain top talent. Our company has adopted a ‘build it and they will come’ mentality—talented people seek us out because our collective team at Offerpad has built an attractive culture that emphasizes inclusiveness, creativity, and personal empowerment.
While Offerpad’s culture is an enticing offering for future talent, our company has shifted focus from reactive recruiting to proactive recruiting in recent history. Per Heather Bailey, “We market through various channels to ensure our culture, values and strong total compensation offerings are front and center.”
Under the direction of Talent Acquisition Director, Tina Angle, our company has enhanced our presence—online and within real estate and tech industry circles—while fostering new relationships at the same time. “Since unemployment is virtually flat for great talent, we have to be able to “believe” in the company/vision to attract the best,” says Tina. “It’s definitely easy to do when you have a leader like Brian directing the strategy and driving the bus.”
